One person died and 38 others were injured after two metro buses collided during rush hour in Türkiye's largest city, local authorities said on Thursday.
The Istanbul Governor's Office reported that the accident occurred in Kucukcekmece district, located on the European side of the city. The governor's office said that among the 38 people injured, two individuals were seriously hurt.
The driver entered the wrong lane after failing to notice a road construction warning. To avoid hitting a construction vehicle, the driver swerved and collided with another metro bus, an NTV broadcaster said.
Once the buses were towed from the scene, there was finally a partial resumption of traffic that had been halted in both directions, the broadcaster added.
Istanbul's metro buses are used by millions of commuters each day. These buses operate on dedicated bus lanes, providing a rapid and efficient means of traveling across the city.
