This is the distressing moment around 20 cows were seen being thrown into a swollen river in India on August 27.

Footage shows individuals from Satna, Madhya Pradesh, allegedly tossing cows into the river during high water levels.

Satna police reported that 15 to 20 cows are believed to have died in the incident.

A formal complaint (FIR) has been filed against suspects Beta Bagri, Ravi Bagri, Rampal Choudhary, and Rajlu Choudhary.

Initial investigations reveal that the incident occurred within the Nagod police station jurisdiction.

The suspects face charges under the Madhya Pradesh Gauvansh Vadh Pratishedh Adhiniyam law, which bans cow slaughter in the state, and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

Authorities are working to confirm the exact number of cows involved and are pursuing the rescue of any remaining at-risk animals.
