A fisherman who was lost in sea for five hours when their boat sank was rescued by a passing ferry.

Roland Marientes was resting in the boat with his brother Dan after trawling when an unidentified vessel allegedly struck them in Masbate province, the Philippines, on August 10.

The two men were thrown into the sea and were separated by strong currents before Roland was spotted by a ship.

Footage shows Roland drifting in the water as the crew of the Star Horse Shipping Line saved him. They tossed an orange life ring into the water so he could climb onboard.

Onlooker Junnie Cortes said: ‘We saw him floating near Burias Island. He said he had been swimming in the water for five hours.'

Roland was taken to a hospital for a health check and was uninjured before being assisted to return home.

However, he and his family are still looking for Dan, coordinating with the local coast guard.
