Footage of a wild, non-venomous watersnake appearing to remember a man who fed it last summer by swimming up to him again and collecting food from his lap.
The bizarre video, filmed on March 25 in Texas, USA, shows the non-venomous diamondback watersnake swimming up to retired zoo director Tim Jones' jetty as if it recognises him. It then grabs a fish out of Tim's hand.
Writing online, however, the filmer warned people not to try this at home, because some watersnakes are extremely venomous.
"This is on a private road that I own; please do not feed wild animals in public places," he said.
"There are lots of pretty non-venomous watersnakes, but not cottonmouths.
"They are venomous and can hurt you or even kill you; learn the difference."
WILD NON VENOMOUS DIAMONDBACK WATERSNAKE REMEMBERED ME FROM LAST SUMMER AND SWAM RIGHT UP TO ME AND CRAWLED INTO MY LAP FOR A SMALL PERCH. THIS YEAR I HOPE THEY WILL TELL ME SOME OF THEIR SECRETS. I TALK TO THEM BUT THEY ARE DEAF TO AIRBORN SOUNDS. THIS IS ON A PRIVATE POND THAT I OWN. PLEASE DO NOT FEED WILD ANIMALS IN PUBLIC PLACES, IT WILL ONLY GET THEM KILLED. LOTS OF PRETTY NON VENOMOUS WATER SNAKES. ( NOT COTTONMOUTHS ) THEY ARE VENOMOUS AND CAN HURT YOU BAD OR EVEN KILL YOU. LEARN THE DIFFERANCE.
