Chinese electrolyzer producers ride global green hydrogen boom
(Voice_over)
Amidst a worldwide push for clean hydrogen as an alternative fuel source, Chinese electrolyzer manufactuers are seeing electrifying exports to markets around the world.
Electrolyzers are devices that use electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, and are a critical technology for producing carbon-free hydrogen from renewable sources like wind or solar.
This company in the northern Chinese city of Handan is one the country’s biggest exporters of electrolyzers.
The deputy general manager says, with orders pouring in from clients primarily in Europe and North America, they plan to ramp up production capacity to meet demand.

Ding Rui, deputy general manager, hydrogen energy technology company:
"Our current production capacity is 350 sets of water electrolysis hydrogen production equipment per year, and by the same period of next year, this number will reach over 1,000."

As the global green hydrogen revolution gains steam, experts say global demand for electrolyzers will rise sharply in the coming years.

Zhang Yu, secretary-general, Hydrogen Energy Branch, China Association for the Promotion of Industry Development:
"According to our statistics, by 2030, planned global green hydrogen production capacity will exceed 40 million tons per year, corresponding to an electrolyzer installed capacity of about 460 gigawatts, which creates a vast market worth nearly a hundred billion dollars."

According to projections by management consultancy firm McKinsey & Company, by 2050, clean hydrogen demand could account for between 73 and 100 percent of the world’s total hydrogen demand.
