A chaotic scene unfolded late August 23rd night in Wheat Ridge when a driver, later charged with DUI and careless driving, crashed into a police patrol car. The incident occurred while officers were already on scene investigating a serious motorcycle crash on the Highway 58 flyover ramp onto eastbound I-70.

The sequence of events began with a motorcycle accident where the rider was found with serious injuries on an embankment near Youngfield St. and was rushed to the hospital. As officers were tending to this incident, a woman driving a car collided with an unoccupied patrol vehicle around 11:11 p.m. The impact was significant enough to flip her vehicle onto its roof, but thanks to the quick response of the officers, she was extricated safely.

Following a field sobriety test and a hospital visit, the woman was issued a summons for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and careless driving. The presence of numerous first responders at the scene was noted, highlighting the fortunate timing that prevented further injuries or fatalities.
