CCTV shows typhoon rainwater being discharged through channel in Japan
Floodwaters were diverted into a discharge channel as Typhoon Shansha battered Japan.
CCTV footage shows torrents of water gushing through the Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel in Kasukabe City in Saitama Prefecture on August 30.
The infrastructure project is said to be the world's largest underground flood diversion facility built to stem floods when the city's waterways overflow during the rainy season.
Typhoon Shanshan made landfall in southern Japan on Thursday, forcing millions to evacuate as it drenched swathes of the region with torrential rains.
Authorities said at least four people were killed and 99 more were injured as of August 30 as the storm moved eastward.
