El Grao de Castellon, Spain - August 30, 2024

A devastating collision involving three vehicles on the AP-7 highway near Moncofar, Castellon, has resulted in the death of a 15-year-old boy and left fourteen others injured, including seven minors, late Thursday night.

The incident occurred around 23:55, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. Among the injured, a 10-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl are currently hospitalized with serious conditions. The boy is in the pediatric ICU at Castellon General Hospital, while the girl is also receiving care at the same facility.

Emergency services, including three units from the SAMU (Emergency Medical Assistance Service), three Basic Life Support units, and a standard ambulance, rushed to the scene at kilometer 456 of the Mediterranean highway. The coordinated effort involved the treatment and subsequent transport of eleven victims to Castellon General Hospital and La Plana Hospital in Vila-real. Three others managed to get to the hospital on their own.

According to the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (CICU), the injuries varied, with three of the victims at Castellon General suffering from fractures, while those at La Plana mostly sustained contusions, many of which were minor.

The Castellon Provincial Fire Consortium also played a crucial role, deploying two units to ensure safety at the scene by managing hazards like battery disconnection from the vehicles involved. No entrapments were reported, but firefighters assisted in recovering the deceased from one of the vehicles after authorization from the Civil Guard. Operations concluded around 4:00 AM.
