STORYLINE:

An 18-member media delegation from China's Macao visited Xiong'an New Area, known as China's "city of future," in China's Hebei Province on Friday.

Many were impressed by the development in the Xiong'an New Area.

"I covered and edited a lot of news about it, but yeah it's the first time. Of course, it's great to see it myself with my own eyes. I'm quite impressed. I didn't know it's so advanced already. I thought it was still in a more embryonic stage. It's actually much more developed than I thought and I am really impressed by it. It looks very modern, something futuristic actually, more than modern. It's futuristic."

In April 2017, China decided to establish the Xiong'an New Area as part of a strategy to promote the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region

Xiong'an was designed to be a smart, livable city that is innovative, green and free from "urban ills"

"What I find more interesting about this is the fact that it is in the direction of being environmentally friendly. For me, coming from Macao, we have just next door a new area that has now become the in-depth cooperation zone of Hengqin between Guangdong and Macao. I believe coming here we can take as reference some best practices perhaps in terms of urban development. This is my very first visit, so I look forward to coming here several times in the course of the coming decades, I hope more years, so I can see with my own eyes and witness the changes and transformations."
