On Saturday evening, outdoor fires were lit on the seashore of the Estonian resort town of Narva-Joesuu.
Traditionally, the Night of Ancient Fires is celebrated on the very last day of summer in Estonia. On this day, people from all over the country gather late at night along the entire length of the Estonian seashore. Activities include having outdoor fires, singing songs, and dancing.
This ancient ritual marks the country's farewell to summer. According to Estonian tradition, lighting fires along the shore was a way for women to ensure safe passage home for male fishermen.
