United States: Cow Rescued from Friant Kern Canal in Daring Operation by Sheriff's Deputies
Fresno, United States - August 30, 2024
In an unusual but successful rescue operation, deputies from the local Sheriff's Office, including members of the Boating Enforcement Unit, saved a cow from the waters of the Friant Kern Canal on August 30th. The incident unfolded around 11:45 am when a concerned citizen reported spotting the bovine floating near the intersection of Ashlan and Riverbend Avenues.
Upon receiving the report, deputies swiftly moved into action, arriving at the canal to find the cow alive but stranded in the water. Deputies Kirkpatrick and Westbrook, both seasoned in swift water rescues, took the lead in what would become a delicate extraction operation. They entered the canal off Clinton Avenue, just east of Riverbend, equipped with ropes and rescue gear.
With the assistance of colleagues on the shore, the deputies managed to secure a rope around the cow. Through coordinated effort, they gently pulled the animal to safety, ensuring no further harm came to it during the rescue.
Once on dry land, the cow was examined and found to be in good health, much to the relief of all involved. Plans are now underway to reunite the cow with its owner, whose identity has not been disclosed.
