Barge runs aground as Tropical Storm Yagi churns up huge waves in the Philippines
A barge ran aground near seaside homes as tropical storm Yagi churned up huge waves in the Philippines.
The barge carrier loaded with sand was beached off Rosario town in Cavite province on September 2. The vessel reportedly struck and damaged part of a breakwater.
Local authorities said they have called the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to tow the ship. The area has also been cordoned off to prevent residents from approaching.
The PCG said investigations were underway to determine the owner of the barge.
Yagi, locally named Enteng, is the fifth cyclone that entered the Philippine archipelago this year, enhancing the southwest monsoon and causing widespread flooding in the country's north central region.
Authorities said the storm left at least 14 people dead in floods and landslides.
Tropical Storm Yagi was expected to intensify into a typhoon later this week before moving towards southern China.
