STORYLINE:
The Turkish defense and aviation industry's export revenues grew by 9.8 percent in the first eight months of 2024 compared to the same period last year, reaching 3.7 billion U.S. dollars, according to figures released by Türkiye's Defense Industry Agency (SSB) on Monday.
In August alone, the country's defense and aerospace exports reached 423 million dollars, up by 12.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, SSB President Haluk Gorgun announced on the social media platform X.
He noted that the main goal of Türkiye's defense industry's export strategy is to achieve a sustained increase in the export of high-value-added products, adding that his company has exported to 171 countries in 2024.
Türkiye has been striving to reduce its reliance on defense imports and establish itself as a key player in the global market.
The country has become a leading exporter of drones in recent years. Turkish exports of defense and aerospace products reached 5.5 billion dollars in 2023, a 27 percent increase from the previous year.
