Electric vehicle catches fire in underground parking lot
A white Mercedes EQE sedan caught fire in an underground parking lot of an apartment complex that damaged more than 70 parked cars.
CCTV footage shows the vehicle emitting thick white smoke before bursting into flames in Incheon, South Korea, on August 1.
Emergency responders and firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Dozens of residents who inhaled the smoke were sent to nearby hospitals for treatment, while 103 individuals evacuated and 106 were rescued from stairs and balconies.
Local reports stated that the vehicle's batteries are made by the Ningde, China-based Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), which launched in the country in 2022. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire.
Residents have expressed concern over the increasing number of electric vehicle fire incidents in the country.
