Brightly coloured corn grown in field in China
Brightly coloured corn was grown in a field in China.
A farmer harvested the corn cobs with shades of pink and purple, featuring a translucent, gem-like appearance, in Yantai, Shandong, on August 30.
The filmer said: 'These corns were all planted by my grandfather, and each one is unique. This is the second year that my grandfather has grown them.'
Some corn varieties naturally produce anthocyanins—a type of flavonoid pigment found in plants—causing the vegetable to have purple or pink kernels. Anthocyanins are water-soluble compounds that can appear red, purple, blue, or black, depending on the pH level of the plant tissue.
