China: South African President tours tech companies in Shenzhen
Shenzhen, China - September 03, 2024
Storyline:
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Tuesday visited Shenzhen, an economic and technology hub in south China's Guangdong Province, before attending the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
President Ramaphosa led his economic ministers to meet with industry leaders from the city. They also toured the headquarters of two tech companies as part of the bilateral business program of his state visit. One of them was BYD, China's leading new energy vehicle manufacturer.
Ramaphosa said he was impressed by BYD's core NEV technologies and a wide range of brands. BYD's chairman Wang Chuanfu said the company is planning to open a manufacturing plant in South Africa, and is hoping to get policy support from the South African government.
The South African president arrived in Beijing on Monday to attend the 2024 Summit of the FOCAC to be held in the Chinese capital from Wednesday to Friday.
