Heroic rescue: Officials save man from drowning in floodwaters in southern India
A dramatic rescue unfolded in southern India’s Telangana as a courageous police officer, with the help of two local youths, saved a man from being swept away by floodwaters.
The incident took place at the Gundu Vagu stream near Tekmal Police Station in the Tekmal Mandal of Medak District on September 3.
Visuals showed a police officer rescuing a man trapped in a heavily flooded area and locals using a rope. The water was dangerously fast-flowing, creating a high-risk situation. Despite the strong currents, they successfully pulled the man to safety, demonstrating remarkable bravery and coordination in the rescue operation.
In a daring rescue operation on a flood-stricken day, Home Guard Mahesh of the Medak District Quick Response Team (QRT) and two local youths saved the life of a 45-year-old man, Ramawath Nandu. The incident occurred near Tekmal Police Station, where the Gundu Vagu stream had overflowed due to heavy rains.
Nandu, attempting to cross a bridge over the stream, was caught in a powerful current and swept away. As he was being washed away, he managed to cling to a rock in the middle of the stream, which prevented him from being completely submerged.
Home Guard Mahesh noticed Nandu's perilous situation and, without hesitation, launched a rescue operation. With the assistance of two brave local youths, they used a rope to navigate the dangerous waters carefully. After a tense struggle, they successfully pulled Nandu to safety.
The District Superintendent of Police (SP) later praised Mahesh and the young men for their bravery, highlighting their quick thinking and coordinated efforts that undoubtedly saved Nandu’s life.
