This is the moment a rescue team retrieved a moose swimming in a river.

The wild animal was spotted casually strolling through the waterways of the Neva River in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on September 4.

Footage shows local emergency service personnel on a boat carefully approaching the moose, using a rope to guide it gently back to the riverbank.

Once it reached the shore, the animal was handed over to environmental officers, who transported it to a forest away from the city.

Officials referred to the animal as the 'moose intruder.'
