A quick-thinking driver reversed away as a landslide fell from a mountain onto a road in India.

Footage shows a large chunk of the cliff breaking and crumbling above his car in Himachal Pradesh on August 30.

The driver showed his quick reactions and shifted gears before hitting the gas, frantically backing away avoiding being hit by large debris until he reached the safe part of the path.

Only the front part of the vehicle had minor scratches and no one was seriously hurt.

Officials believe that the landslide was caused by heavy rain that has been battering India in recent weeks, leading to monsoon floods that have killed dozens and displaced hundreds of thousands more.

Earlier this week, India's weather office said a deep depression of weather formed over land and is gradually moving northwest over the Arabian Sea, causing intense rainfall.

The Indian Air Force used drones and helicopters to drop food and relief aid to affected residents during rescue operations.

Officials at the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said this year has seen one of the most severe monsoon seasons in recorded history.
