This is the moment agents at a tollbooth used fire extinguishers and mineral water bottles to put out a blaze in a small lorry just as it pulled up to the booth.

The incident occurred at the Zhibek-Zhol toll plaza on the Astana-Temirtau highway in Arshaly District, Akmola Region in northern Kazakhstan, on August 27.

Footage shows the lorry arriving at the tollbooth when the driver noticed smoke from under the bonnet. Upon exiting the vehicle, he saw flames licking the road surface.

A fireball erupted from underneath when he opened the bonnet, causing him to flee.

Agents at the tollbooth quickly responded with fire extinguishers, while others used bottles of mineral water to douse the flames, eventually bringing the fire under control.

The still-smoking vehicle, identified as a Gazelle truck, was then pushed away from the tollbooth area, eliminating any further risk to the structure managed by KazAvtoZhol.

A KazAvtoZhol spokesman said: 'This incident highlights the importance of paying close attention to the vehicle's technical condition.

'Malfunctions can lead to tragic consequences, especially on the road.'
