SOUNDBITE 1 (English): HAILEMARIAM DESSALEGN, Former Ethiopian Prime Minister
"We learned from those development initiatives how the thinking of industrial parks has come. China has been a pioneer in that sense.
We did a very thorough study. That doesn't mean we just copied it. We have to contextualize. Ethiopia is a different setting in Africa, a developing country with a different culture. So how can we adapt this to our own situation?
I think this is a very rigorous process but China has been our basic country to study and emulate (with regard to the development of industrial parks)."
Dessalegn noted that China-Africa cooperation, particularly through the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), has been highly successful and beneficial for African countries such as Ethiopia.
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): HAILEMARIAM DESSALEGN, Former Ethiopian Prime Minister
"At a nutshell, it has been a platform for discussion, for understanding each other."
