A forest officer was locked inside a wildlife cage while demonstrating to colleagues how to trap animals.

The officer stepped inside the steel structure while teaching volunteers how to operate it in Chhattisgarh, India.

He closed the latch while he was still in the cage but had to be rescued when he tried without success to open it.

Footage shows the officer ducked inside the 4ft (1.2 meters) high tiger cage as he struggled to open the locks.

He used tools and saw but the cage's iron bars were to thick to cut through manually.

His colleagues eventually freed him after an hour of trying to open the cage. He was unhurt from the incident.

The demonstration was to prepare for rescue operation as tiger and wolf attacks have increased in the area.

In August, a tiger attacked a farmer before it fled back to the forest.

A pack of wolves was also seen roaming nearby Lakhimpur district which attacked dogs and cows in villages.
