On September 5, 2024, a bright fireball lit up the skies over northern Philippines as a small asteroid, named 2024 RW1, burned up in the atmosphere. The asteroid, measuring approximately 1 meter (3.2 feet), was spotted shortly after midnight near Tuguegarao, Cagayan. Though harmless, the asteroid created a spectacular sight, according to the European Space Agency (ESA). It was discovered by the Catalina Sky Survey, a project run by the University of Arizona and funded by NASA. The event was captured in a video shared by Joel Espita.
