On September 5, 2024, a small asteroid measuring approximately 1 meter (3.2 feet) entered Earth's atmosphere and created a spectacular fireball over Ilagan, Isabela, Philippines. Captured in a video shared by City Tambayan, the bright fireball was seen shortly after midnight. According to the European Space Agency (ESA), the asteroid was deemed "harmless" and is one of the rare instances where such an object was discovered before its atmospheric entry. The Catalina Sky Survey, funded by NASA and operated by the University of Arizona, identified the asteroid just a day prior.
