Munich, Germany - September 05, 2024

This morning, officers noticed a suspicious man carrying a long gun near the Israeli Consulate General and the Documentation Centre for the History of National Socialism. Several shots were fired. The police were able to stop the man. He has since died.

Forensic officers are currently examining the scene of the crime to determine the possible background to the incident.

The police are now talking about a static situation, meaning that they assume that the man who was shot acted alone.

The crime occurred on the anniversary of the 1972 Munich Olympics attack, when Palestinian terrorists killed eleven Israeli athletes in Munich.

The Israeli consulate was closed because a memorial service was taking place today, it is reported. There were no injuries there.
