Indian dog bite victim arrested for biting rampage
An Indian dog bite victim was arrested for an alleged biting rampage in India.
Footage shows the suspect being apprehended and brought under control with the assistance of authorities and residents after he reportedly chased and bit people in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, on September 4.
The man was restrained with a rope before being transported for necessary medical attention.
Officials suspected that the resident might have had hydrophobia, a condition associated with rabies, which can develop when a person is bitten by an uninfected stray dog that consumes raw meat.
However, the hospital where he was admitted suggested a diagnosis of neuropsychosis and recommended treatment at a higher facility.
This incident has highlighted the ongoing man-animal conflict and the stray dog issue in Muzaffarnagar. Just a few days earlier, a local man, identified as Nikhil Agrawal, died after being bitten by a stray dog.
Locals reported that there have been several recent instances of stray dogs and monkeys attacking people in Muzaffarnagar, leading to loss of life.
India has one of the largest populations of stray dogs in the world, estimated to be around 35-40 million.
The hounds often live in urban and semi-urban areas, relying on human communities for food and shelter.
However, it has caused a surge in the number of dog attacks.
