STORYLINE:

Many foreign students have benefited from education cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, and witnessed the continuous and deepening exchanges between the two sides.

The year of 2024 marks the China-ASEAN Year of People-to-People Exchanges.

In China's Guizhou, students from ASEAN countries make up about 70% of the total international student population.

Since earlier this year, Zunyi Normal University in Guizhou has offered cross-border e-commerce courses, attracting students from ASEAN countries such as Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia.

The university has also established a cross-border e-commerce talent training base, together with a local company.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): SHEN MAOYIN, Zunyi Normal University, Guizhou
"Most of the international students in our school are from ASEAN countries, with a total of over 100 students. The main goal of our base is to enhance students' employability and entrepreneurial skills."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): DUANGPASEUTH AMPHONE, Lao student at Zunyi Normal University
"I major in financial management, but in my spare time, I also learn cross-border e-commerce courses. I think I can choose cross-border e-commerce as my career after graduation. I can work at a very promising company, or start my own business. I can also promote high-quality products from my hometown to the international market."

China's vocational education institutes are also providing training for ASEAN teachers and students.

In 2022, Guizhou Vocational College of Agriculture signed a cooperation agreement with a technical college in Laos, and established an agricultural tech training station.

The training courses have benefited hundreds of Lao agricultural technicians.

SOUNDBITE 3 (Chinese): LIU FANG, Guizhou Vocational College of Agriculture
"Many people from ASEAN countries have come here to learn about our technology and projects. We have collaborated with other universities or colleges, including those in Laos, Vietnam, and Nepal, to jointly participate in the development of these projects and the research and development of technologies."

Data shows that the number of Chinese students studying in ASEAN countries and students of ASEAN countries studying in China surpassed 175,000 in 2023.
