STORYLINE:

A photo exhibition on the Flying Tigers kicked off Friday in Changting County, east China's Fujian Province, highlighting the historic friendship between Chinese and American people.

The Flying Tigers, officially known as the American Volunteer Group of the Chinese Air Force, was formed in 1941 by U.S. General Claire Lee Chennault. They came to China to help Chinese people fight the invading Japanese troops.

The exhibition features nearly 400 historic photographs of the Flying Tigers, many of which were donated by the veterans themselves.

A delegation from the U.S., including members of the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation and descendants of Flying Tigers veterans, attended the launch ceremony of the exhibition.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): JEFFREY GREENE, Chairman of the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation
"This is the most important relationship that will ever exist between the American and Chinese people -- Fei Hu Dui (Flying Tigers). The relationship between China and the United States in the future, it's not only critical, it's essential because if the relationship is not good, the whole world will suffer. They must cooperate, they must accomplish things, they must do things together."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): MARGARET KINCANNON, Daughter of a veteran of the Flying Tigers
"We are members of the two greatest nations in the world. We should be working together as friends and as allies to help build upon what we already have and promote that spirit of the Flying Tigers. And I'm doing everything I can to make that happen as well by telling as many people as I can about China and about the loving and kind and friendly and helpful and cooperative people I've met here."
