Surging tidal waves hit Vietnamese shorelines as Super Typhoon Yagi battered the country.

Footage shows strong waves crashing towards a beach in Ha Long Bay lined with apartments and hotels on September 7.

Yagi was Asia's most powerful storm this year, triggering landslides and floods that killed at least 24 people in Vietnam where it made landfall.

Four people also died in the Chinese holiday of Hainan in its path after coming from the Philippines where it killed at least 20 residents.

The tropical cyclone intensified into a super typhoon last week causing a trail of destruction in the region.
