STORYLINE:
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Saturday a package of economic measures to be implemented over the next year as part of a wider "road map to 2027."
Mitsotakis laid out next year's economic program in a speech to the 88th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), the country's largest annual trade fair.
The prime minister's term in office will end in 2027. By then, Mitsotakis says he aims to have achieved higher growth and fair distribution of that growth among all Greeks, he said.
"Our country needs to move forward faster, safely, with hope... and prosperity in every corner (of Greece) for each citizen," Mitsotakis said.
Mitsotakis said that the set of outlined measures is aimed at strengthening household incomes through increases in pensions and in private and public sector salaries, as well as by providing higher benefits for vulnerable groups such as the unemployed and the disabled. The increases are set to go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025.
The prime minister also announced the establishment of an investment fund that will support projects in sectors such as artificial intelligence.
