Kind residents rescued a beached whale that was being thrashed by waves in the shallows.

Footage shows the men helping to carry the Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin struggling to move amid strong currents in the sand in Phuket, Thailand, on August 28.

They lifted the animal and returned it to the water, where it could swim away safely.

Local Thipathip Noppalai said: 'The dolphin was stranded on Nai Thon beach, and my neighbours helped save it. We watched it swim away, so it was a good feeling.'

The Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin is a species found primarily in the coastal waters of the Indian Ocean and western Pacific Ocean. It is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss, bycatch in fisheries, and other human activities.
