This is the incredible moment a passenger trapped between the platform and a train was saved by a station guard in India.

The woman crossed climbed down the tracks and crossed to the other side of the Jalgaon Railway Station, defying safety rules in Maharashtra on August 28.

However, she was still on the edge of the tracks with the locomotive approaching, prompting guards and onlookers to save her.

CCTV footage shows the woman throwing her bag onto the platform before trying to climb to safety without success.

She clung onto floor with half of her body stuck in the narrow gap between the train and the platform before a Railway Protection Force guard Chango Patil pulled her to safety.

The woman was unscathed and was assisted to board the train.

After the incident, authorities advised passengers to follow safety rules and use the footbridges provided at stations to prevent it from happening again.

It said in a statement: ‘Failing to follow safety protocols while crossing railroad tracks can result in tragic consequences.'

India has a high number of train-related accidents due to factors such as ageing infrastructure, overcrowding, and human error.

While efforts have been made to upgrade systems, the country still lacks comprehensive modern safety mechanisms like automatic train protection systems or real-time monitoring technology in many areas.
