Turkey: Turkey has made a request to join the BRICS and fill the gap left by Argentina
İstanbul, Turkey - August 21, 2024
Turkey confirmed last Wednesday its interest in joining the BRICS group, led by Russia and China, and has indicated that a process is already underway in this regard, the result of which will be announced when it has been finalised.
"Our president has expressed on numerous occasions that we want to be a member of the BRICS. In this matter, our request is open, there is a process. But there is no concrete progress on this," said Omer Celik, vice president and spokesman for the AKP, the party of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to the media.
"If there were a concrete progress regarding being a member of the BRICS, we would share this information with you," said the senior official.
