This is the shocking moment a small plane crashes into a van and a motorbike on a motorway in Brazil.

Footage shows the aircraft, reportedly piloted by doctor and businessman Jacinto Lay, crashing onto the BR-316, hitting a van, a motorcycle, and a bus station in the Lourival Parente neighborhood of Teresina, Piaui, on Sunday, September 8.

A female biker was reportedly injured and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Keiliane Pereira dos Santos, 27, was on a motorcycle and was allegedly hit by part of the plane when it crashed. She sustained a traumatic brain injury and is in serious but stable condition.

Local media reported that a couple and their two children were in the van that was hit but were unharmed.

The pilot also suffered a traumatic brain injury and fractured both his legs. He was rescued by emergency services and taken to the hospital.

An audio recording from Petronio Portela Airport revealed that the pilot had been experiencing mechanical problems before the crash. The Second Regional Service for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents is investigating the incident.
