Out-of-control electric car suddenly speeds up and crashes into vehicles
This is the shocking moment an electric car unexpectedly accelerates at top speed, causing devastation in a narrow street and demolishing several vehicles in China.
The incident happened when the driver of the NIO SUV, who was filming from a dashboard camera as he traveled at 15 kph down the road in the city of Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, suddenly found the vehicle speeding up on August 31.
Despite the driver's efforts to steer around obstacles, the car accelerated uncontrollably, crashing into parked vehicles and demolishing a tricycle.
The driver of the out-of-control vehicle, identified only as Mr Huang, said: 'There was nothing I could do. It went from 15 kph to 90 kph in a few seconds.'
He said he had been driving cars for 20 years and had never experienced anything like this, with the NIO suddenly speeding up out of control.
Investigators are examining a potential mechanical fault that caused the crash, which resulted in no injuries. Police are also investigating why the vehicle's airbags did not deploy.
