SOUNDBITE (Turkish): KAMIL ERDOGDU, Head of Chinese books division of Kirmizi Kedi Publishing House
"For years, Turkish engagement with Chinese culture, literature and art has been mediated through Western sources. We have long relied on translations into other languages before receiving them in Turkish. We are now working to change this and bring Chinese literature directly to Turkish readers. We believe that China should be explored not only through its economy and politics but also through its rich literary and cultural heritage."
According to Erdogdu, the publishing house plans to launch a biannual literary magazine in collaboration with Beijing-based authors, to enhance cooperation with China.
