Three baby elephants sneaked into a family's backyard swimming pool for some late-night fun.

The young jumbos strayed away from their herd and entered a property as they wandered a village Nakhon Nayok, Thailand on September 2.

The playful animals then plunged into the pool at the back of the house, splashing each other as they paddled through the cool refreshing water.

CCTV footage shows the calves enjoying the refreshing bath while the residents were asleep inside. The trio huddled in the water and played for a while until they left the property and rejoined the herd.

Drone footage captured the same baby elephants wandering through the forest the next day.

House owner Phornthip Phungpha said: 'They secretly played in our pool and were very cute. They did not destroy anything. We're happy to share a pool with elephants, as long as we're not in the water with them at the same time.'

The baby elephants were seen again in the morning with their family as they returned to the forest.

Thailand has up to 3,500 elephants in the wild. The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in the country at the beginning of the 20th century.
