Cyclist struck on the head by broken light pole while riding through park
This is the shocking moment a cyclist was struck on the head by a broken light pole while riding through a park in China.
CCTV footage shows the holidaymaker biking along a path in a park in Shantou, Guangdong Province, on September 5, during pleasant weather.
Suddenly, a broken light pole snaps off its base and hits her on the head as she rides by.
The impact knocks her off her bike, and she lands on the ground in visible distress as the footage ends.
Local media reported that the middle-aged woman was hospitalised for her injuries.
Officials confirmed she is currently in stable condition and did not sustain a concussion or any other serious head injury.
They added that the pole had broken during a powerful typhoon a few days prior but had gone unnoticed until the day of the incident.
