Maiduguri, Nigeria - September 13, 2024

Severe flooding in Maiduguri, Nigeria, has claimed the lives of at least 37 people and left more than 1.2 million affected. The catastrophic floods, described as the worst in decades, have inundated large parts of the city, submerging schools, hospitals, government buildings, and commercial areas.

Rescue operations are still underway, with local authorities working to aid displaced citizens. The government has established nine camps, providing essential resources such as food, blankets, clothes, and financial assistance to those in need.

Nearly half of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, remains submerged, with extensive recovery efforts ongoing. The scale of the disaster has overwhelmed local infrastructure, prompting a call for further aid to manage the ongoing crisis.
