A hero boy fought off an enraged bull attacking his grandmother.

Jatin heard the elderly woman Angoori Devi, 70, screaming when a stray cow knocked her over in the streets before he rushed to save her in Haryana, India.

CCTV footage shows Jatin running swiftly to rescue Angoori. He tried to scare the animal away, but it charged at him and threw him to the curb.

Despite being trampled on by the bull, he refused to leave and lift the injured pensioner to help her flee.

Jatin and his grandmother were then shoved by the animal and were knocked over before neighbours drove the bull away with sticks.

The brave boy and the elderly woman were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. The youngster had minor bruises while Angoori underwent surgery to fix her fractured hand.

A neighbour said: ‘Jatin faced danger to protect his grandmother. It was a testament to his heroic nature.'

In India, devout locals follow Hindu customs, with cows regarded as sacred animals that cannot be eaten or slaughtered once they have stopped producing milk. The majority of states ban the sale or slaughter of cows.

Instead of dealing with the economic burden of keeping their spent cattle, many farmers let the beasts roam the streets - leading to chaos when the animals become agitated and turn their fury on humans.
