The attacker, named Mao Mouguo, due to a dispute, used a fruit knife to slash a woman named Song Mouhong. A woman spotted the incident and rushed to the victim's rescue using an umbrella to fend off the attacker.

Meanwhile, Jiao Yuanshi, the manager of a nearby braised food shop and a retired soldier, heard the commotion outside and rushed out with an iron ladle in hand.

Seizing the moment, he struck the knife-wielding man on the back of the neck with the ladle, successfully diverting the attacker's attention and forcing him to release the victim, who was then rescued.

Jiao then confronted the man, gradually pushing him towards a less crowded corner to prevent him from harming any innocent bystanders again.

Following Jiao's lead, other bystanders joined in and surrounded Mao until the police arrived and apprehended him.

The Gusu Branch of the Suzhou Public Security Bureau officially recognised the floral dress girl Liu Yang, "ladle man" Jiao Yuanshi, and Liu Qiang as individuals who acted with bravery.
