Taxi crashes into tourist on Thai island Phuket
A taxi crashed into a tourist walking along a road and knocked him over on the Thai island of Phuket.
The driver was travelling slowly behind the elderly foreigner but bumped into him, throwing him off his feet on September 9.
CCTV footage shows the vehicle for hire hitting the back of the old man who fell over. A passerby assisted the tourist, who politely bowed at her as he showed her he was fine.
However, moments later, the hot-headed taxi driver climbed down his car and pointed to the front of it, while witnesses said the driver cursed at the foreigner.
The barbershop owner whose security camera recorded the crash said: ‘The taxi was behind the elderly foreigner but did not brake and hit him. He did not even ask if the tourist was fine. Instead, he insulted the victim.'
The passenger from the taxi left the vehicle and checked if the pensioner was hurt.
After a brief argument, the taxi driver returned to his car and left. The foreigner's identity remained unknown as he did not file an official complaint with the police.
Thailand has opened its doors to tourists over the last year in a desperate bid to revive tourism. However, there have been thousands of clashes with locals as well as complaints about overcrowding and rising prices.
