Eight-month-old baby rescued from floods in Thailand
This is the heartwarming moment an eight-month-old baby was rescued from floods in Thailand.
Supattra Jaidee and her family were stranded due to the heavy rain from Typhoon Yagi that affected Chiang Rai in the north of the country on September 12.
Footage shows the woman, along with her neighbours, wading through the leg-deep muddy waters with the toddler in a basin.
Supattra, the baby's aunt, said: 'We tried to find a way to help my niece at the school, along with the baby.
'The area was heavily flooded. If we had waited for the authorities to arrive, it would have been too late because the water was rising very quickly.
'We only managed to bring essential items for the baby and couldn't gather anything else. I'd like to thank the kind people in the village and those who stood by us in the floodwaters. The current was very strong and frightening, but everyone is safe now.'
Typhoon Yagi devastated Thailand, where at least six people were killed. The death toll in neighbouring Vietnam has reached 250. The Philippines, China and Laos have also been badly hit.
The storm, with sustained winds of 234 km/h (145 mph), is recorded as the world's second-most powerful tropical cyclone this year, after Category 5 Atlantic Hurricane Beryl.
Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Friday visited residents affected by floods in the Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai.
The daughter of de facto Thai leader Thaksin Shinawatra - who was released from jail earlier this year - said food and water would be sent to those stranded in their homes.
