A major stretch of the National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir was blocked after a landslide halted traffic, leaving commuters stranded on both sides.

The incident took place in Bhata Dhurian village in Poonch district on September 14.

Visuals showed debris from a landslide crashing down a mountainside within seconds, blocking the road. Commuters waiting at either end were left stranded as massive rocks and soil covered the highway, preventing any movement.

According to reports, the landslide affected the Poonch-Rajouri section of the National Highway, a critical part of the "Golden Arc," a 200-kilometer route connecting the western part of South Kashmir to the Jammu region and border districts like Akhnoor, Rajouri, and Poonch. This major route, which includes four essential tunnels, plays a vital role in ensuring smooth travel across the region. The landslides, reportedly triggered by torrential rainfall, have caused significant disruption to traffic and impacted daily commute in the area.
