This whale shark was found stranded by fishermen on Surantih Beach in the morning and until now the fish is known to be dead.

Based on records from the Padang Coastal and Marine Resources Management Center (BPSPL), starting from November 2024 and until mid-September 2024, there were 7 whale sharks or spotted sharks (rhincodon typus) stranded on the beaches of the South Coast region, two of which were successfully returned to the sea and Another 5 of them were declared dead.

The public, especially fishermen, are advised to be careful when sailing so as not to hit a whale shark and cause injury.

This is because this species is one of the protected animals based on the Decree of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Number 18 of 2013 concerning the Determination of the Full Protection Status of Whale Sharks and even internationally by IUCN (The International Union for Conservation of Nature).
