Superstitious Thai locals visit rare kitten with two heads for good luck
Superstitious Thai locals are worshipping a rare kitten born with two faces.
Residents flocked to see the mutant newborn feline in Phetchabun province, Thailand, on September 13. They believed it would bring them good fortune ahead of a lottery draw.
The kitten's owner, Thurian Intawiset, 82, said she found the baby animal abandoned at her home with its umbilical cord still attached.
It has two mouths, two sets of eyes and two noses. She has named her Lucky Girl.
Thurian said: 'Its mother was nowhere to be found. I was shocked by its unusual appearance. It had two faces but it was still alive. Since the mother cat just left it there, my family and I decided to take care of it. I believe it would bring us good luck.'
The plucky kitten was still battling on today, September 16, despite its rare condition.
The owner added that she had previously taken care of an orphaned stray kitten which she claimed was her family's lucky charm before it passed away.
Thurian said: 'I will care for her and protect her. She is still strong and has a good character.'
Polycephaly is a rare congenital condition that can affect humans and animals. It is caused by a failure of the embryo to split into two separate individuals during development.
Mother cats are known to abandon sick, weak, or deformed offspring with low chances of survival.
