Chaos ensued as Typhoon Bebinca made landfall in Shanghai on September 16 felling trees and damaging buildings with winds up to 42 metres per second making it the strongest typhoon to hit the city in 75 years.

The typhoon brought powerful winds that caused pedestrians to struggle to stay upright, uprooted trees, blew out windows from high-rise buildings, and tore off metal roofs, which fell onto roads, damaging passing vehicles and severely disrupting daily life.

According to the Shanghai Flood Control Headquarters, by 12:30 pm on September 16, the typhoon had caused damage to four buildings, injured one person, uprooted or broken over 10,000 trees, caused 153 power outages, and flooded over 800 acres of farmland. In terms of transportation, 577 train services, 1,461 flights, and 39 ferry trips were canceled. Additionally, 139 parks and scenic areas were closed across the city, as well as the Donghai and Yangtze River Bridges.
