STORYLINE:
Three people were dead and at least seven others went missing due to floods caused by extreme rainfall in the Czech Republic, police said on Monday.
Czech Police President Martin Vondrasek told Czech Radio that one person drowned in a river near Bruntal in the country's northeastern Moravian-Silesian Region. And police have also registered seven missing persons in connection with floods. Regional police said later on Monday that they found another two dead people in Krnov.
Rivers and streams in the Czech Republic have been swollen after the rains since Friday. The high water hit the Moravian-Silesian Region in particular, but also northeastern and southern Bohemia.
Local media reported that more than 12,000 people have been evacuated so far, and about 118,000 households in the country were without electricity on Monday morning.
The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute said that most of the rain from this episode had fallen, expecting rainfall to stop by Tuesday.
