A schoolgirl with an extreme infestation of headlice went to a hairdresser to ask for help in shaving her head.

The youngster, 10, was ordered to visit a salon by her horrified teacher in Khon Kaen province, Thailand on September 14.

Her scalp was brimming with crawling parasites and nits on all of the strands.

Footage shows the girl's hair being probed by stylist Rattana Vichasri. She found hundreds of blood-sucking bugs before mowing off her hair.

Rattana said: ‘The girl seemed scared to approach me but her friends were very supportive. I told her to come in and not be afraid.'

The hairdresser added that when she saw the kid's head, she was shocked as it was the worst infestation she had ever seen.

She said: ‘They were all over her head. I told her hair had to be shaved off. She agreed and we proceeded.'

There were still some nits on the tips of the strands afterwards and the stylist helped the girl clean them off with shampoo.

She said: ‘I felt so sorry for the child. I gave her free shampoo and hopefully, the infestation does not come back.'
