This is the moment Hong Kong singer and actor Andy Lau falls down a hole on stage in front of an army of fans during a performance in southern China.

The 62-year-old superstar was not seriously hurt and only suffered a minor hand injury after stepping into the open trapdoor on the stage in Shenzhen, Guangdong, on September 9.

He had been singing one of his hit songs, Nan Ren Ku Ba Bu Shi Zui, and was pointing his microphone at the audience for them to join in when the accident happened.

It is unclear why the trapdoor was left open, and an inquiry is currently underway.

The injury transpired on the last day of his 2024 concert tour and followed a similar incident in Shanghai when he almost fell from a 13ft (4 metre) elevated platform.

When he returned with his left thumb bandaged, Andy continued his performance with equal enthusiasm, performing one of his upbeat Cantonese hits.

Later on, he sat down on the edge of the stage to chat with his audience.

He told them: 'I hurt my thumb just now, don't be worried about me, okay? I will be careful. I let my guard down just now because this is my last concert here today.

'I promised everyone that I would be safe and healthy, but I am hurt now, I am sorry.

'To tell you honestly, when I go home later, my family members would scold me. Please protect me and tell them not to blame me.

'I was careless. I won't do it again. I promise everyone that I won't do it again! Let's not talk about this anymore and be happy!'

Concert organisers have not commented on the incident yet.
